AI buyer personas for self-serve products

Close buyers who never book a call.

A self-serve product has no salesperson to answer the one worry that stops a buyer. The page has to do it, or they close the tab. Barbwire builds that buyer from your site and sends them through it in a real browser.

Meet your buyers
  • Yes or no
  • Where it stopped
  • What would change its mind

They decide in one visit, and you never hear from them.

A coach checks the one feature that worries her. A freelancer compares you with her spreadsheet. Neither books a demo. You cannot interview someone who never wrote to you.

You know what every line on the page means, so you cannot read it as they do.

A buyer with a worry, and the page that has to answer it.

  1. Paste your URL. Barbwire builds five personas for your market, each with must-see items and deal breakers in its own words.
  2. Pick the one closest to the buyer you lose, or give a persona that one worry in a line.
  3. Send it in. It reads, scrolls and clicks for up to 15 steps and says what it thinks at each one.
  4. The report says yes or no, where it stopped, and what would change its mind.

What you see: a coach leaves at step 5.

Executive coach · Skeptic

Starting at 2 of 5

Would not buy

We built an executive coach with an independent practice, a skeptic starting at 2 of 5. Her deal breakers:

Deal breakers

  • Bots join calls automatically
  • Recordings stored on vendor servers

We sent her to calendly.com.

Step 3

A homepage pop-up pitched the Notetaker, and she clicked Learn more:

“Captured every meeting sounds like a bot is in the room. Let me see the detail page before I go further.”

Step 5Landmine

She read how it works and left:

“So a bot can join my client calls on its own if someone sets a rule. That’s my deal breaker, and I’m out.”

She ended at 1 of 5. The report marks this as a landmine, severity 3 of 3. The page showed something that went against what she came for, so she left at once.

The fix it gives:

  1. 1

State in the How it works step 01 that the notetaker never joins a call unless the host starts it.

This is one simulated decision, not a verdict on Calendly. The site may have changed since then. Calendly did not commission or endorse this example.

The other kind of stop is barbed wire. The buyer wants to believe you and cannot find the proof. They keep looking, and their keenness drops.

Change the line. Send the same buyer again.

Every finding names the page, the element and the change. Your personas stay saved. Change the page, then send the same persona from the same start page. See if the no becomes a yes. Runs vary a little, so trust a flip, not a one-point move.

Limits

One persona is one point of view, not a conversion rate. The coach read 35% of the Notetaker page and left; the storage answer may sit below. Open the step before you act.
